Hard work shouldn't mean persistent poverty.

Rural farming communities in southeastern Liberia (Harper and Pleebo Sodoken Districts) continue to face persistent poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to productive agricultural tools and markets.

Although farmers work incredibly hard, operating individually limits their productivity. Without organized support, market-oriented production, and shared resources, farming fails to generate the meaningful income needed to support families and educate children.

A Sustainable, Group-Based Approach

The Growing Hope Project is a group-based agricultural empowerment initiative. We invest in organized groups that work, produce, and sell together, rather than individuals.

Group Ownership

All tools, equipment, and benefits are owned collectively by 5 farmer groups and managed through group leadership structures.

Hands-on Training

Practical farming, group record keeping, post-harvest handling, and value addition (like cassava processing).

Replication Cycle

Profits are reinvested. As groups become stable, RFEN replicates the model, passing systems to new groups.

The Crisis of Injustice

In Southeastern Liberia (Harper and Pleebo Sodoken Districts), hardworking rural farmers face a deeply entrenched cycle of poverty. This is not just an economic issue; it is a profound social injustice. Despite their relentless labor, families are structurally excluded from fair market access, modern agricultural tools, and shared resources.

The devastating result is a daily struggle where basic nutritional needs go unmet and children are fundamentally denied their right to an education because parents cannot generate meaningful income from their isolated labor.

Our Proven Solution: Group-Based Resilience

RFEN refuses to accept this status quo. The Growing Hope Project actively shifts the paradigm from vulnerable, isolated individuals to powerful, organized collectives. By grouping farmers, we build resilient micro-economies that cannot easily be broken by systemic neglect.

Key Interventions

Targeting the Vulnerable Empowering 38 smallholder farmers—predominantly women and youth—organized into five cooperative groups to maximize output and share the burden of labor.
Shared Ownership & Processing All tools, fertilizers, and two high-capacity cassava processing machines will be owned and managed collectively, ensuring no single farmer is left behind and post-harvest losses are eliminated.
Self-Sustaining Replication As groups generate income from quick-maturing cash crops, a portion is deliberately reinvested to "give birth" to new farming groups across the region, creating a cascading effect of poverty alleviation.
